Gardner was born in Gloucester,[1] and sang as a chorister at Gloucester Cathedral. As a youth, he played piano, clarinet and organ.[2] He attended the King's School, Gloucester and Eton College. At the University of Cambridge, he continued as a music student, and was a choral scholar in King's College Choir.

In September 2010, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Gardner started as principle guest conductor, CBSO principal guest conductor in July 2016 In 2005, Gardner won the Young Artist prize of the Royal Philharmonic Society.[8] In March 2006, he was appointed music director of English National Opera. in February 2013, Gardner became principal guest conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra a post he held until 2024.

Rouvali learned percussion as a youngster, and continued his studies at the Sibelius Academy. Rouvali competed in the Eurovision Young Soloists Finnish qualifier in 2004 as a percussionist.

In September 2009, Rouvali guest-conducted the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra as an emergency substitute conductor. He first guest-conducted the Tapiola Sinfonietta in November 2010. In August 2014, Rouvali made his first guest-conducting appearance with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra before becoming principle(GSO). Rouvali first guest-conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra in January 2013. In March 2017, the Philharmonia announced the appointment of Rouvali as one of its two new principal guest conductors, effective with the 2017–2018 season.[10] In May 2019, the Philharmonia announced the appointment of Rouvali as its next principal conductor, effective with the 2021–2022 season, with an initial contract of 5 years.[11] In September 2020, the Philharmonia released its first recording with Rouvali as conductor, a recording of Swan Lake made in 2019. Rouvali has made commercial recordings with the Oulu Philharmonic Orchestra for Ondine, and with the Tampere Philharmonic for Orfeo.[13] He has conducted music of Sibelius with the Gothenburg Symphony for Alpha Classics.[14][15]

Sir Antonio Pappano

Renowned for his dynamic interpretations and deep musicality, Sir Antonio Pappano is the Chief Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. His tenure has been marked by numerous critically acclaimed performances and recordings.

Pappano born in Epping, his Italian parents worked in the restaurant business. His father, Pasquale Pappano, was by vocation a singing teacher. When Pappano was 13 years old, he moved with his family to Connecticut.

After musical training in piano, composition, and conducting, he became a rehearsal accompanist at the New York City Opera at the age of 21. Pappano attracted the attention of fellow pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim, and became his assistant at the Bayreuth Festival. He was principal guest conductor of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra from 1997 to 1999. In 2005, Pappano became music director of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. In 2002, Pappano was named the music director of the Royal Opera House (ROH), Covent Garden.[4] Pappano was the youngest conductor at the orchestra of the ROH, performing for the Royal Opera and Royal Ballet. At Covent Garden, Pappano and Kasper Holten, the ROH Director of Opera, shared responsibility for production finishing in 2024. Pappano first guest-conducted the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) in 1996. In March 2021, the LSO announced the appointment of Pappano as its next chief conductor, effective in September 2024.

Sir John Barbirolli

Both in the concert hall and on record, Barbirolli was particularly associated with the music of English composers such as Elgar, Delius and Vaughan Williams. His interpretations of other late Romantic composers, such as Mahler and Sibelius, as well as of earlier classical composers, including Schubert, are also still admired.
He is remembered above all as conductor of the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester, which he helped save from dissolution in 1943 and conducted for the rest of his life. Earlier in his career he was Arturo Toscanini's successor as music director of the New York Philharmonic, serving from 1936 to 1943. He was also chief conductor of the Houston Symphony from 1961 to 1967, and was a guest conductor of many other orchestras, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic, with all of which he made recordings.

Sir Simon Rattle

Sir Simon Rattle was born in Liverpool and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

From 1980 to 1998, Sir Simon was Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and was appointed Music Director in 1990. He moved to Berlin in 2002 and held the positions of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker until he stepped down in 2018. Sir Simon became Music Director of the London Symphony Orchestra in September 2017 and spent the 2017-18 season at the helm of both ensembles.

(29 April 1879 – 8 March 1961) was an English conductor and impresario best known for his association with the London Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic orchestras. He was also closely associated with the Liverpool Philharmonic and Hallé orchestras. From the early 20th century until his death, Beecham was a major influence on the musical life of Britain and, according to the BBC, was Britain's first international conductor.
